Tips for Foreigner travelling or visiting Jakarta, Indonesia by Air through Soekarno-Hatta (CGK) International Airport.
Ø Immigration
After you get off the plane, please take Line 1 (left) or Line 3 (right). Line 2 (center) is for Citizen/Permanent Residents/Diplomats/etc.
People holding ASEAN Passport can enter without visa (mostly). Visa On Arrival is also available for people from certain country.The fee would be USD 25. You need to pay before the Immigration. Immigration queue can be long during certain period.
After that go to the Custom. Everyone must goes through custom check before leaving the arrival area.
I would suggest you choose Blue Bird Taxi (Toyota Limo, blue color) or Silver Bird Taxi (Mercedes Benz or Toyota Alphard, with black color) http://www.bluebirdgroup.com/passenger-transportation/executive-taxi-silver-bird
The taxi driver will bring you through a highway all the way to your destination. You need to pay for the highway (IDR 12.000) and airport surcharge (IDR 10.000). It’s not included in the meter, you need to manually add it.
The meter from Airport to center of Jakarta would be around IDR 250.000 or less on normal traffic using Silver Bird. It should be less than half of if if your using Blue Bird or other regular taxi. Receipts is not common, but some taxi can provide receipts. Usually we round up the payment to the nearest IDR 5.000 or IDR 10.000.
Ø Money Changer
You need cash to pay the taxi, airport tax, tips, etc. The Exchange Rate at the airport (Arrival) is kind of expensive. Suggest you to only change small amount of money there.
From the Airport to the Central Area, it would take around 1 hour or less with the normal traffic.

After custom area, you just go outside to the road (before car park). Then you’ll find many taxi stands. People will offer to take their taxi. Choose legitimate taxi only.
